Coverage of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala starts at 7 p.m. EST on E! News.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala is an exclusive event, but thanks to live-streaming, viewers can feel like they are part of one of the most fabulous nights in fashion. Parts of the Monday night event this year can been seen on television and other moments can be viewed on the internet.
Last year, live-stream footage was available through the Met’s Twitter page and Periscope account. This year, simply download the Periscope app to any Android or iOS phone. Don’t delay, since no time is wasted once the event starts at 7 p.m. EST.
If that doesn’t work, E! News is there to help out. For the first time, the station responsible for “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” will have a presence on the red carpet. Giuliana Rancic will ask celebrities “who” they are wearing, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. EST. The network will also have a pre-show starting at 7 p.m. EST. Make sure to check out “Live From E!” when it streams on Facebook and eonline.com.
The Met also marks the return of “Fashion Police,” which will air Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST. Melissa Rivers, Margaret Cho, Brad Goreski and Rancic will discuss the hits and misses of the 2016 Met Gala.
Every year, the Met Gala changes its theme. For 2016, it is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” So what exactly does that mean? It’s a mix of machine-made and handmade haute couture fashion.
“Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made,” Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, told Vogue in October. “But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.”
The Met Gala raises money for the museum and also marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
